Our Minister and Staff
Rev. Kent Doss
Rev. Kent Doss began his ministry at Tapestry in August 2013. Before joining us here he served the UU congregation in Laguna Beach for six years. He attended seminary at Iliff School of Theology in Denver CO where he also earned a certification in Justice and Peace Studies. Rev. Kent currently serves as the President of the Pacific Southwest District of the Unitarian Universalist Association, and he sees his ministry as one that reaches beyond the congregation to build a thriving Unitarian Universalist movement for the future.
Outside of Tapestry Rev. Kent enjoys running, cooking, sailing, and walking his dog Lucy. If you come to Tapestry during the week you are likely to see her in the office. Rev. Kent is also working on a Doctorate of Ministry through Phillips Theological Seminary. The focus for the degree is pastoral theology.
Rev. Rayna Hamre
Affiliated Community Minister
Rev. Rayna Hamre is a long-time Unitarian Universalist who grew up in the Orange County area. She has served as a UU lay leader and as a Director of Religious Education. She holds a Master of Divinity degree and a MA in History. Her social justice activities include serving as a County appointed Commissioner on the Board of Community Action Patnership Orange County. She also is a member of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice Orange County. As a Pagan leader in Orange County, Rev. Rayna leads meditation classes and provides ritual training for students exploring a mystical path. She is the founder and lead teacher of Three Worlds One Heart.
Dr. Melissa Sky-Eagle
Melissa Sky-Eagle is music director at Tapestry Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Mission Viejo, California, leading the choir, and programming and accompanying music for the services. For the last 22 years, she has held continuous jobs as pianist, collaborator, and music director. She serves as the staff accompanist and vocal coach at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, rehearsing singers on notes, diction, and blend, taking a practical approach to music making. She also enjoys accompanying and acting as music director for theater productions at A Noise Within Theatre in Pasadena, and Los Angeles Valley College. She serves her community by volunteering with Selah Gospel Choir.
Melissa is involved in the Unitarian Universalist community, playing at the UU Community Church of Santa Monica and also at deBenneville Pines, where she helped lead the Singing in the Pines Choir Camp. She played the piano at the Unitarian Universalist Association Pacific Southwest District Assembly in Chandler, Arizona, collaborating with Mr. DeReau Farrar and Rev. Tera Little, from Throop Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasadena. In January of 2016, she participated in the MLK Greater LA UU Choir Festival. She has created five piano arrangements suitable for use in Unitarian congregations as preludes, offertories, postludes, or meditations.
