Tapestry Raise the Roof Capital Campaign

Help us raise funds for a home of our own

Dear Tapestry Members and Friends,

If you haven’t heard the exciting news, we finally have the opportunity to buy a building of our own. Two different buildings in a great location fit our needs and a lender is interested in working with us to finance the purchase. We are closer than ever to achieving this dream. Now we need every bit of help we can get to make the final step of purchasing.

Our current location in Mission Viejo is nice, but there are several insurmountable problems there.

  1. We need more classrooms for our powerful and growing Children’s Religious Education program.
  2. We need a real kitchen. The volunteers have struggled for too long to prepare community meals in a makeshift kitchen area (in a hallway, outside the bathrooms, without an oven).
  3. We pay too much in rent. In the next three years our rent will climb to $10,000 per month. Imagine what good we could do in the world with that money when someday we own our building free and clear.
  4. We need room to grow. Tapestry is now the largest Unitarian Universalist congregation in Orange County. We recently welcomed fourteen new members and anticipate more will come, especially new families.
  5. We need the stability of a long-term home of our own.

In this packet you will find a lot of information about the buildings we are looking at, how much money we need, and several different ways that you can give. If you have any questions about the building purchase or about supporting the capital campaign please ask Lynn Cowan, Julia Rampone, Eddie Moler, or Gary Glass. Also there will be a casual informational session after the worship service every Sunday for those who want to learn more.

The funding goals listed here would enable us to buy the more expensive option, so don’t be overwhelmed. Already Tapestry members have offered $125,000 to this campaign before we officially asked. I am confident that together we will soon have a home to call our own.
Sincerely,
Rev. Kent Doss
