Tapestry members and friends are invited to consider acting in a volunteer capacity as a tutor of adults through READ OC, a project provided through the County of Orange. The website states that READ OC tutors are “volunteers from the community with a passion for helping other adults gain literacy skills. No previous teaching experience is required.” http://readoc.org/involved/tutor
Tutors must be:
• At least 18 years old
• Able to speak, read, and write in English
• Compassionate and sensitive to the needs of adult learners
• Prepared to learn new teaching techniques, new ideas, and new experiences!
Tutoring is scheduled according to your convenience in a public location anywhere in Orange County. Most pairs meet at their local library. Tutors are provided with training and materials.
The next Tutor Training Orientation will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 1pm – 2pm or 6pm -7pm
We are hoping to form a cadre of volunteers from Tapestry beginning with this orientation and subsequent training. If you would like to be part of the Tapestry Tutor Team just follow two easy steps:
Together we can make a difference for adult learners as they work to achieve their reading, writing, and English goals. Our team will support each other as we support learners on the path to success.
